  • If you were absent today, here is the practice writing handout Practice sentences  Please complete it before the first day back at school
  • During the last few days of the break, it would be a good idea to spend some time reviewing vocabulary and structures from Unit 1 so that you return to class confident with what you can say & do in French
  • We will be assessing your ability to communicate in writing during the first few days

  • If you were absent this week & missed assessments, you will be expected to make them up during the first days back after the break
  • Though you do not have assigned homework for the break, I encourage you to review language structures & vocabulary in the last days before you return to school
  • Consider listening to some French music, watching a French film or tv show or reading some short news articles online! Twitter, Instagram & Youtube offer great resources for listening and reading. They’re authentic and relevant…look for something that interests you 🙂

  • Begin to do some research about influential French-speaking people throughout history (not necessarily from France). Think about culture: artists, poets, writers, musicians, but also scientists, architects, leaders etc
  • You will have class time to work on this mini-research project at the end of the month, to create an infographic and to share your research with others orally by Friday, April 3rd. Bring a laptop on the first day back!

Be prepared to talk about your voyage en Francophonie.  Come prepared with screenshots and be ready to use language for talking about travel.  Review your checklist to ensure that you’re comfortable talking about each of the topics listed there.

Continue preparing for tomorrow’s evaluative conversations (les débats) by reviewing language for sharing and eliciting (asking for) opinions and for talking about culture.  Also review how to use the conditional and subjunctive moods.

  • Flight (and/or train) itinerary
  • Bus/train/boat schedules
  • Tourist attractions & destinations
  • Packing list
  • Tickets, budget, prices.

Also, continue reviewing vocabulary and action words relating to travel.

  1. Do you remember our discussion today about how and why some languages have been dominant at certain times throughout history?  Check out the top 40 songs in France right now.  And the top films of 2019 in France.  What do you notice?
  2. Read the article about a trip to Canada on p. 46-47 of your booklet and answer the questions on p. 47.  (You can write your answers in point-form on p. 47 if you like.)

Read the article, “Les selfies, nouvel art de l’autoportrait” on p. 16 of your unit booklet.  Be ready tomorrow to talk about whether selfies in cultural places are faux pas (i.e. in poor taste) or a new form of cultural appreciation.

  • To practise what we worked on in class today, write three more questions using ‘quand, qui, où’ and action words from your unit package
  • Write a full sentence response to each of your three questions
  • Try to use ‘my’ and ‘your’ in your questions and answers (Mon, ma, mes  AND ton, ta, tes).
  • Practise writing the ‘er’ verbs in French that we have been using (p31). Learning check-in this week! You need to know how to write it and what it means.

Block 3:  To practice using the conditional, write two sentences about the following:

  • For politeness:  Say one thing you would like to do on your trip to your Francophone destination.
  • For a hypothetical situation:  Si j’avais une million de dollars, je…

Block 4:  Practice the futur simple tonight by completing activities 2 and 3 on p. 29 of your unit booklet.

Prepare for tomorrow’s mini-debates!  Think about how you might share your opinion in favour or against the topic at hand.  Write down your key points and bring them to class with you.

You will need to think ahead of time about some good arguments you can use to support your position.  This might include comparisons (plus/moins/aussi/autant que), justifications (parce que, car) and examples (par exemple).  Of course, you’ll want to use some of the language we’ve learned to agree or disagree with someone.  You can have your unit booklets with you during the mini-debates.

A reminder that the debate topics are:

  • Les fourchettes sont plus utiles que les cuillers.
  • Le wi-fi est meilleur que les données (data).
  • Les pandas sont meilleurs que les unicornes.
