To prepare for speaking, listening and written assessments for this intro unit:

  • Review the questions on p 33 (so that you are comfortable asking/answering them in partners next week)
  • Use the sentence builder on p 34 to practise talking about what you like/don’t like about school
    • An important goal for French 10 is to add more voluntary detail to your conversations. The sentence builder helps you to do this when talking about school.
  • Complete the exercises on p 35 using the sentence builder 
  • Review the structures & vocabulary on p 36 & 37 to talk about what you did on the weekend & what you are going to do

TO DO ON THE WEEKEND:

  • Complete the assigned activities on The Language Gym before class on Monday
  • Studythe new vocabulary & language structures from today’s class
  • Prepare for your interpretive learning check-in (verbs) p43
    • Remember that this means ‘understanding’ what the words mean
    • Practise making questions & sentences with the words like we did in class. You give meaning to the words by using them to communicate your message & this helps you to remember them!

TO DO TONIGHT:

  • Review the new vocabulary & language structures from today’s class
  • Complete the readings & practice work for ‘Saying where I live & am from’ p 65-67
    • Make sure you are taking the time to LEARN the new vocabulary and structure & not simply trying to “get the worksheet done”
    • I suggest reading the short paragraphs once for information (and completing the questions) and AGAIN for fluency and comprehension of the paragraph as a whole

  2. Sign up for The Language Gym classroom using the classroom code that I gave you in class
  3. Study your school vocabulary by
    • Practising to say the words aloud
    • Making cue cards or a list with French word on one side & English on the other
    • Completing assigned school word activities on The Language Gym
    • Reviewing the 4 questions we practised today &  the structures for answering in complete sentences

    • Re-read it aloud so that you are practising your speaking voice in French
  • Revisit the learning objectives on p 2 of your package

Bonjour les amis!

For today, you have 3 tasks. Please complete them before the end of class at 2:55.

  1. If you took French 9 at Pinetree, you were told to keep your unit packages. Please find them and put them with the binder you will use for French 10. You will find them useful as you re-activate your “French brain” 🙂
  2. Go to the Questions Pour Madame channel on Teams and reply to my post (en français, bien sûr!) with a post of your own. Please include the following information in your post:
    • A greeting
    • Your name
    • Your age
    • Two things that you like
    • One thing that you dislike a lot
    • A closing/way of saying goodbye

THEN, make sure you read the posts of your classmates and reply in writing to at least one person + like/or other emoji for the rest.

EXAMPLES of appropriate replies would be:

  • Moi aussi j’aime…
  • Moi non plus je n’aime pas …
  • A follow up question based on something they have written  

3. Lastly, please read this chapter Chapitre 1

    • Practise reading it aloud for pronunciation (we will do this again in class on Thurs/Fri)
    • Practise reading it for comprehension
    • Write 8 questions (2 for each page of text) to practise asking & answering with partners in class

  • The last interpretive assessment will be on Monday, Nov 16th
    • It will include a few sentences (listening) from Napoleon books 9-12 & several sentences related to the Moi, ma famille & mes amis unit
  • The last presentational assessment (writing) will also be on Monday.

REMINDERS FOR EVERYONE:

  • Your last class on Mon/Tues will include a longer, presentational writing task as a final look at what you can produce in French
    • Think about tenses, vocabulary, connecting words that you have been working with throughout the quarter 
    • At the end of French 11, I am looking for evidence of previous & current learning, more effective use of details, well-connected sentences, more varied vocabulary & improved accuracy of tenses 
    • PLEASE REMEMBER TO RETURN YOUR NOVEL 🙂
