Make sure you completed the reading & interpretive work in class on p 38-43
To use in conversations on Thursday/Friday, make a list of thought-provoking questions to
discuss thoughts/opinions about the importance of preserving or being knowledgeable about history (of your family, your country, your culture, the world in general)
ask about a favourite fable & its moral and discuss its relevance in the world today & your personal connection to it
talk about what makes someone a hero & find out if your partner has a hero (historical or current) & why
share info you’ve learned about castles in France, how they changed through time & how they are used today
compare the advantages & disadvantages of life in a castle vs. life today (in a house, apartment, etc)
compare general life today with life in past times (try to elicit positives & negatives from each time … think about education, dress, family life, work, etc)
discuss what you would or could do then vs now
You MUST do some quick research to find out the following
How many castles still exist in France today
How castles changed between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance
Then,
Find a castle with an interesting history, surprising current use or something else that you like
Screen shot 2-3 photos & jot down 3-5 interesting facts about it (along with its name & location)
Then,
Briefly jot down the basics of a fable you recall from childhood & find out who was the original author
Make a list of any words that you might need to look up to retell this story
Make sure you completed the interpretive reading on p 30-32 & completed the activities on p 33-35 (including answering Part C questions (for yourself) & writing a paragraph for Part D (no Venn Diagram needed)
Watch the following Alice Ayel video about Jean de la Fontaine & take notes about his life on p 48. Include as many details as you can!
***End of Unit Interpretive reading assessment is scheduled for next Wednesday
It’s mostly an independent listening practice day!
Start with a partner conversation about what you are going to do after school today.
Qu’est-ce que tu vas faire après l’école aujourd’hui? Plus tard ce soir? …. Je vais ______ (insert action word in the infinitive form) + some extra details 🙂
Then, use your ‘On écoute’ booklet to work through Unit 8 (Jobs people do)
Reminder: Log into The Language Gym, click on Audio at the top, scroll down until you see the French listening book
*** We will be checking your Friday practice (up to the end of p 54) together tomorrow
*** If you work fast & have time, continue to Unit 9 (Comparing people)
*** If you haven’t yet checked your Unit 5, 6 or 7 responses, the answer keys are on top of the my filing cabinet
This is mostly an independent listening practice day …
Watch/listen to Alice Ayel tell the fable of “Le corbeau et le renard”.
On p 46, answer the questions about the story as you listen.
Watch/listen to Alice Ayel tell the fable of “Le lion et la souris”.
On p 47, answer the questions about the story as you listen.
The two fables you just listened to have been around since the 1600s or even earlier. Think about the purpose of a fable & why they are told and retold through the centuries. We will discuss this tomorrow!
Extra time? Work on maintaining conversations in French on topics we’ve discussed in the past. Challenge yourself to use multiple tenses, sequence & connection words, a variety of vocab from previous units. Pull out old unit packages if you need a refresher on vocab!
